    Domestic Cruises In Australian Waters

It is important to note that a nib domestic travel insurance policy will not cover you for a domestic cruise in Australian Waters. So if you are planning any cruises such as a Kimberley or Tasmanian cruise or a cruise to nowhere you will need to purchase either a Comprehensive Plan or an Essentials Plan and list Australian Waters as your destination.

    Rental Vehicle Excess Insurance Explained

A nib Domestic Travel Insurance Plan includes $5,000 worth of Rental Vehicle Excess Insurance. This can also be increased by paying additional premium for every extra $500 of cover. So what does this mean? It means that when you pick up your hire car you will be asked whether you want to reduce the excess of the hire agreement by usually between $25 to $30 a day. If you happen to return the vehicle with damage the hire car company will charge an amount to your credit card account and then you can submit a travel insurance claim for the reimbursement when you return from your trip.

    Existing Medical Conditions

There is no medical cover for travel on land based trips in Australia. That is because Medicare and Private Health Insurance takes care of your medical needs whilst in Australia. However an often overlooked aspect of purchasing domestic travel insurance is that you may need cover for your existing medical conditions for the purpose of cancellation cover. If you have any existing medical condition(s) and you want them covered you will need to have them assessed either by self screening or contacting the medical assessment team. If approved, your Existing medical conditions, will be listed on the policy as a specified medical condition and cover is available for claims arising from your specified medical condition(s) in the event that you need to cancel your travel arrangements.

For further details of the existing medical conditions assessment process and how to go about getting approval please visit the Existing Medical Conditions page on our website.
