nib Cruise Travel Insurance
Cruise Travel Insurance – Save 30%
Cruise Travel Insurance can either take the form of a standard travel insurance policy available with many companies or you can go one better with a nib Travel Insurance policy which includes a number of added features specifically designed for cruising. Cruising can be one of the most relaxing holidays you can experience. So much so that you could be forgiven for thinking that nothing possibly could go wrong. Of course this can be far from the truth as many travellers have experienced. It could be a weather related delay, a twist of an ankle on a shore excursion or of course the dreaded sea sickness. Or it could be more serious and involve a medical evacuation from the ship in the middle of the ocean. Leaving on a cruise without comprehensive travel insurance has left many travellers to contend with large bills that could have been easily avoided if only they had taken out adequate travel insurance.

Cruise Cover Explained
There are four categories of cruise cover inbuilt into the International Travel Insurance policy.
- Cruise Catch up means if because of an event that is unexpected and outside of your control your inbound flight is delayed by at least six hours and causes you to miss your cruise departure then you are covered for reasonable additional costs in economy class to get you to the next port of call so you can catch up with the cruise.
- Cabin or ship’s hospital confinement means you are covered if you are confined or quarantined to your cabin or ship’s hospital by the ship’s medical officer for more than 24 continuous hours because of an illness or injury which first happened on the cruise.
- Pre-paid shore excursion cancellation means you are covered for cancellation fees and lost deposits if you cannot go on a shore excursion/s because of an illness or injury which first happened on the cruise.
- Delayed Cruise return means you will be covered if during your cruise the ship is diverted from its scheduled itinerary to assist in a marine rescue and because of the diversion you miss your scheduled public transport you had booked to return home after your cruise.
What destination do I choose when cruising?
In regard to an international cruise that calls at multiple ports and destinations you choose the destination based on the region where you will be spending the majority of your time on your entire itinerary.
If you are planning a domestic cruise you are able to purchase an Australian Travel Insurance policy if you are cruising only in Australian waters. If your domestic cruise also visits international ports or travels outside of Australian waters then you will need to purchase a policy as if you are going on a South West Pacific Cruise. This ensures you have medical cover on board.
Your premiums are calculated taking into consideration your majority destination, your age and the duration of your trip along with any approval fees for Existing Medical Conditions and any chosen additional benefits.
You will also need to advise us if you will be spending more than 72 hours of your itinerary in either the USA, South America, Central America or Antarctica.
Existing Medical Conditions
If you have any Existing medical condition/s and you want them covered you will need to have them assessed and hopefully approved by the insurer. If approved this will ensure that you will be fully covered in the event that you need to cancel your travel arrangements as a result of a medical event related to your existing medical conditions. You will also be fully covered for medical and hospital expenses whilst you travel if you suffer a medical event during your trip related to your existing medical condition/s.
For further details of the existing medical conditions assessment process and how to go about getting approval please visit the Existing Medical Conditions page on our website.
